The questions buyers actually ask before sourcing CNC machining from China — from getting a quote and running a DFM review, to tolerances, materials, lead times, documentation, and payment. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Quick answers
  • MOQ 1 piece, lead times of roughly 3 / 7 / 30 days depending on complexity. ±0.003 mm CNC milling, ±0.002 mm CNC turning; ±0.002 mm grinding, Ppk ≥ 1.67 at the initial study on key characteristics and Cpk ≥ 1.33 on general characteristics. Capability is reported per characteristic: every report names the feature, its tolerance band, the sample size, the sigma method, and the study window.
  • DFM review included with every quote — flags what drives cost before you order.
  • ISO 9001 · IATF 16949 · ISO 14001 certified, build-to-print.

How do I start a CNC machining project?

How do I get a quote for a CNC machined part?

Email your STEP, IGES, or 2D drawing to [email protected], along with the material, finish, and quantity. We return a design-for-manufacturability review and a quote, usually within one business day. For complex parts, include a 2D drawing with critical tolerances called out.

What files do you need for an accurate quote?

A 3D file (STEP or IGES) and, for complex parts, a 2D drawing (PDF or DXF) with tolerances. Also include the material grade, any surface treatment, the order quantity, and the annual volume. The more complete the file, the more accurate the quote and the review.

How does the DFM review work?

What is the DFM review and does it cost anything?

The design-for-manufacturability review is included with every quote at no cost. It flags internal corners, thin walls, deep pockets, and over-tight tolerances before you order, so you can decide which design changes are worth making rather than paying for difficulty you did not intend.

Do I have to change my design after the DFM review?

No. The review is advice, not a requirement. We flag what would drive up cost or risk and propose the smallest change that removes it, but you decide. You can accept the suggestions, reject them, or ask for alternatives — the quote reflects whichever path you choose.

What tolerances and materials can you work with?

What tolerances can you hold?

±0.003 mm on CNC milling, ±0.002 mm on CNC turning, and ±0.002 mm for precision grinding. We verify critical dimensions on Hexagon CMMs and hold process capability to Ppk ≥ 1.67 at the initial study on key characteristics and Cpk ≥ 1.33 on general characteristics. Capability is reported per characteristic: every report names the feature, its tolerance band, the sample size, the sigma method, and the study window. Any dimension we cannot reliably hold is flagged in the review before cutting.

Which materials do you machine?

Aluminum, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, brass, copper, titanium, and magnesium, plus engineering plastics including ABS, POM, nylon, PTFE, and PEEK. Incoming material is checked by XRF against the mill certificate before machining.

What are the MOQ and lead times?

What is your minimum order quantity?

One piece. We machine prototypes and single-part orders as well as production runs, so you can validate a design and iterate on the DFM feedback before committing to volume. There is no production minimum to hit before we start.

What are your lead times?

Roughly 3, 7, or 30 days depending on part complexity and the number of process steps. Simple parts ship in about 3 days; parts with surface finishing or 10–20 process steps fall into the longer 30-day tier. Fewer setups in the design move a part down a tier.

How do quality and documentation work?

Do you provide inspection reports with parts?

Yes. CMM dimensional reports, SPC charts, and material certificates ship with your parts. For automotive and regulated work we can also run PPAP and FAI packages, including control plans and PFMEA, on request.

How do you trace a part back to its material?

Our MES/ERP system records raw material source, process parameters, machine data, batch, machining time, operator, and inspection results on every lot. If a non-conformance surfaces, we can isolate exactly which lot, machine, and operator were involved.

How do ordering, payment, and shipping work?

What payment terms do you accept?

Standard export terms are a deposit with the balance before shipment, moving to open terms once the relationship is proven. We agree the payment schedule and the Incoterm in writing at the same time as the price, so commercial and quality terms are locked together.

How do you handle shipping and customs?

We ship by air or sea freight and can arrange customs documentation. Agreeing the Incoterm up front decides who owns the risk at each leg. Ask for a landed-cost quote — piece price plus freight, insurance, and duties — so there are no surprises.

Which materials and industries do you cover?

We machine aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, brass, copper, and Inconel, plus engineering plastics including PEEK and Delrin. These China machining services go into medical, aerospace, automotive, robotics, electronics and defense applications, with the inspection, traceability and documentation each sector requires before it places an order.

What buyers ask most

Three questions come up on nearly every enquiry. What is the minimum order? One piece - a single prototype can be machined, checked and iterated before any volume is committed. What is the lead time? Roughly 3 / 7 / 30 days depending on the material and the documentation scope, from a simple aluminium part to a full first-article package. What tolerances can you hold? ±0.003 mm milled and ±0.002 mm turned, verified on a Hexagon CMM, with Ppk 1.67 or better initial and Cpk 1.33 or better in production on critical characteristics. The answers are short because the capability is specific, not vague.

The evidence behind the numbers

Ask for proof and the answer is specific: Dongguan Zhuohang Ltd runs 100+ CNC machines on a 6,800 m² floor in Hengli Town, Dongguan, including the Mazak VARIAXIS I-600 five-axis, the INTEGREX I-250H S mill-turn, Brother SPEEDIO, and TSUGAMI, STAR and CITIZEN Swiss lathes. Inspection runs on a Hexagon CMM with the 10:1 gauge rule, and ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 14001:2015 are held by verifiable certificate number. Critical characteristics are tracked with Ppk 1.67 initial and Cpk 1.33 in production - a tolerance quoted here is a tolerance held.

Buyers across Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom in Europe; Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States in the Americas; China, Israel, Japan, Singapore and Sri Lanka in Asia; Australia and New Zealand in Oceania; and South Africa in Africa are served from Dongguan with worldwide shipping. MOQ is 1 piece; lead times run about 3 / 7 / 30 days. Send the drawing and quantity to Felipe Iglesias at [email protected] or +86 13126536955 and the quote returns with the process spelled out.

Starting your order

The quickest route to a part is a model and a quantity. Send the STEP or IGES file with a 2D drawing that names the tolerances, datums, material grade and finish, plus the quantity and the lead time you need, and you get an itemised quote - material, setup, cycle time and inspection - not a round figure. No finished drawing? Send what you have and the questions that are blocking you; the goal is to begin, not to wait for a flawless package.

Email Felipe Iglesias at [email protected] or call +86 13126536955. MOQ is 1 piece, lead times run roughly 3 / 7 / 30 days, and shipping covers Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania and Africa, plus worldwide from Dongguan.

The tolerance and finish numbers

On this floor milling holds ±0.003 mm, turning ±0.002 mm, and grinding or wire EDM ±0.002 mm, verified on a Hexagon CMM against the drawing datums. As-milled surfaces run Ra 0.8 to 3.2 µm, ground Ra 0.2 to 0.4 µm, polished Ra 0.05 to 0.1 µm. Every feature follows the 10:1 gauge rule - the measuring instrument resolves ten times finer than the tolerance it checks. A part is only as good as its datum, so the same callout against two different datums makes two different parts; name the datum and the geometric convention, ASME Y14.5 or ISO.

Materials, compared

For light and economical, aluminium 6061-T6 is the default; 7075-T6 adds strength for aerospace and structural parts. Among stainless, 303 machines cleanly for fittings, 304 and 316 add corrosion resistance, and 17-4 PH adds strength after ageing. Steel is the workhorse on strength and cost. Brass cuts fastest and conducts well. Copper C110 is the conductivity benchmark, with C145 tellurium copper for machinability. Titanium and Inconel hold high-temperature strength but machine slowly and cost more. Because material is the biggest price lever, pick it for the service - load, environment, temperature - not by habit, and name the grade on the drawing for the mill certificate to confirm.

Placing the part on the right process

The shortest way to a correct part is to let the shop read the drawing and place it on the right machine, because the process follows the geometry, the material and the tolerance - not the label on the page. A part with a turned profile goes to the lathe, a prismatic part to the machining centre, a long thin part to a Swiss machine, and a sheet or panel to the router; you state what the part must do, and the shop matches the process. That is the whole of the routing decision, and it is settled at the quote.

This floor runs 100+ CNC machines - Mazak VARIAXIS I-600 five-axis, Mazak INTEGREX I-250H S mill-turn, Brother SPEEDIO, and TSUGAMI, STAR and CITIZEN Swiss lathes - at ±0.003 mm milled and ±0.002 mm turned, verified on a Hexagon CMM, with certification to ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 14001:2015. MOQ is 1 piece and lead times run roughly 3 / 7 / 30 days. Send the drawing to Felipe Iglesias at [email protected] or +86 13126536955 and the process is matched to the part.

De-risking a first order

A trial order of a few pieces is the cheapest insurance you can buy — it proves the routing, the tolerance and the paper trail on a small batch before the volume order locks in. One floor, one quality system, one accountable party, whether the run is a single part or a full production lot, so what the trial confirms is what production repeats.
